Sarkozy alert for ex-pats

Are we to be seen as scum as well ?

Good old Sarkozy, he has proposed to review the efforts of immigrants to integrate, get a job and to be able to speak French.

In the press this week.

Sarkozy wants selective immigration

French interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy confirmed that his project for

an immigration law contains the principle of selective immigration,

French papers report.

Under the law, a three-year residence permit will be delivered to

highly-qualified foreign workers such as scientists, computer

scientists, artists or those with a "rare competence."

"We no longer want an immigration that is inflicted [on us] but an

immigration that is chosen", Sarkozy told Le Journal du Dimanche,

adding that "the system of integration the French way no longer works".

Wonder whether Gîte & B&B patrons, gîte change over personnel, gardeners, translators or builders etc will be seen as rare competences.

He is said to be  going to give up the immigrant vote in the south to gain the nationalist votes there.....

Think I shall dust off the beret, dig up some onions and call meself, Johnny.....................

That won't help - he's becoming Belgian. I should be all right

as I have some "rare competences" - am I not still the Framingham Earl

Secondary Modern Pickled Egg Eating champion?

[/quote]

Jond, not THE Johnny I am thinking of !! A Belgian oignon seller is taboo in Brittany...

Funny enough, I was runner up in that competition, albeit in the

formation class  at my local approved place, would that still be

seen as fairly competent ? I do hope so, don't want to go back just

yet....

He sounds very like many people on these forums!  [:O]

Of course, he doesn't really mean us, does he?   British people "relocate" to France nowadays, remember, it's not the same thing AT ALL as that lot in the south.

Sarkozy is a bumptious nyaff.    He's like a yappy snappy dog, makes you want to give him a good boot in the teeth.

But I fulfill all of Sarko's requirements.   Well, apart from the job.   But I am soooooooo integrated, you just wouldn't believe it, why only yesterday a dusty French workman said "Bonjour Madame" to me from the back of his petite camionette.   If that's not a sign of full integration, I don't know what is.

What height is Sarkozy, do you know?  I see that he bouffants his locks, I assume that's to make himself look bigger and scarier and more impressive.   You know, like a frill-necked lizard.

I think he's actually talking about non-EU immigrants. I agree that newcomers to a country should learn the language, I certainly wouldn't want to work alongside someone who can't even understand what I'm saying and vice-versa.

Let's not beat about the bush.   He's talking about Arabs and blacks, but is still just that tiny bit too much of a mainstream politician to say so.  Le Pen would have no compunctions........

I think there is a big difference between anglophones who settle to live often quite comfortable lives and don't make the effort to learn the language, understand how things work, etc, and people who come specifically to find work that is unavailable, or much less well paid,  in their own countries.  The latter DO make the effort to learn, because they have to in order to survive.

He's just a little bit taller than your new dog.

I base this on watching him doing his hop skip and jump routine: the one is he forced to do whenever he 'walks' alongside de Villpin. Sarko never quite catches up, so it is impossible without hi-tech equipment to work out his real height.

EDIT: picture of Sarko here      [Z]

What,  my French is sort of good enough to talk with the Provencale, Dordognese

and Bretons and be understood but if I didn't have my arms to wave

about and my fingers to signal with, I could never be thought of as integrated. I could be OK in Italy though.

I have learned to mumble in a French drawl and keep a dummy Gauloise in

the corner of my mouth. It flumoxes the locals every time, they simply

think I am a village fool from the next department.

Sarkozy is just over 1.2 metres tall (so, is he taller than Mr Lautrec?)

and the bouffant is aprox 30 centimetres, therefore making him around

the average size for a frilly necked political reptile.

Was that Bonjour Madame said in a kind of "do you want to see my

baguette Madame" kinda way ? That's real integration, when the artisans

are after more than just giving you their siret number [;)]

Are you sure it is just for non EU's, he seemed pretty angry to

me...............I shall continue with the beret and oignons until I am

more sure of his intentions !

I'm not sure that its not just his bulgy eyes that make him look

permanantly enraged. My accent when speaking French seemingly has

passed from "definitely English" to "obviously but unidentifibly

foreign and somewhat annoying", which I think could be considered

progress. I might stop shaving for a bit to be on the safe side though.

Like until after the next election.

It's not just the bulging eyes, it's the fact that he fidgets the whole time and looks as though he as about to explode at something.   Even when his wife cam back to him after Christmas he looked as though he wanted to strangle her, though couldn't because it might be a political liability...... D d V is not only much taller and better-looking, but has a talent for appearing calm all the time, even when he too must be lining up candidates for strangulation.

Oh dear, I'm more integrated than I thought!  [:$]

Why, just last week at the fruit-and-beg stall at the market, the man was showing me his prices.  It was when that bitter wind was visiting from Russia, and I said I didn't want to see his prices, I just wanted to be warm.  He said he could offer a way to make me warm.  Strangely, we both stayed cold.  I went to the gnocchi stall after that.

Bang on jond !

A beard, a beret, oignons, dodgy accent (I am thought of as having a

kind of  mid channel accent from Egypt, as in Estuary English I

guess)  a bicyclette.

If we all put tips on here as to, how to outwit and fox the Frenchies, we may stay here for somewhile yet.....

Hi

Are any of you members of the UMP? I have joined and look forward to helping with their election campain, and to seeing a end to 25 years of soul destroying socialism. If you haven`t already joined it might be a good idea to consider. You never know he might do for France what Maggie did for the UK.

Have a nice day.

Hope you are ready to get out canvassing for M Chirac, as it is still quite possible that he will be the UMP candidate next year.

Anyway if you want to be rid of the existing "Socialist" hegemony, why join the UMP?  after all they are the  exiting government.

If you consider  the UMP to be socialists I think you would probably more at home with De Villiers or Le Pen.[8-)]

In an idle moment, just clicked on this topic for the first time.

I don't mind being called scum, at a push I am willing to integrate and learn a bit of the lingo but WORK....you are joking!  I hope!  Please tell me that bit's not true.

If it is true how long before I have to leave as I want to get my name down early for a house and extras.

He's a rum cove is our Phillipe de Villiers, aka the bloke in charge of

La Belle Vendée. On one hand, he is a fine and capable administrator,

done marvels for the département, kind to small children & animals,

etc; on the other he foams and chews ankles with the best of them.

Rabidly anti EU, yet has managed to extract untold largess from them to

do up village halls, build libraries and designate national parks.

Since he sits in the European Parliment, you might of thought someone

would have put two and two together and turned off the cash. I now

think he might be the joker in the pack and could swing it into the

final round, even if he is basically Le Pen with more chram and a

better haircut.
