Miki
Your post was deleted by XXXXXXXXXSubject: Re: what do we need to get loan?Reason: Off topic posts deleted from this threadThanks,Complete France Forums teamI got this 4 times, so I guess I made 4 posts on that thread.I am totally cheesed off at the way posts are now being deleted and the somewhat weak reasons for doing so.Look at this excuse..........Off topic was given. Well on aquick look around the forum, who would like to take a guess as to howmany threads go off topic ? no point eh, we all know that nearly allposts will change track, some from funny to serious, others fromserious to funny, others will simply go on and off topic throughout the thread. In this case, among other things, I believed I said something abouta loan and a patisserie, terrible eh, whipping is not good enough foryou boy !.We had a spell ages ago of all this and it was bluddy annoying then. Noone wants to take time to compose a post only to find later, that dueto the thread going off topic, it will get the chop. If mine was takenoff due to being left alone in the middle of the field, so tospeak and left there without rhyme and reason to do with the thread, then say so but Ithought the thread was OK, well there was a spat going on..............but so what, take the spatty bit out ?I don't like to have to say this but some of you Mods appear to havebeen taking a few liberties lately. Posts involving you personally semto have a good chance of "disappearing" and that is notmoderating for the forum but moderating on a personal note. In whichcase, shouldn't we all have that privelege ?As a footnote, can it now taken that ALL posts off topic be chopped or can I take it as personal ?Disgruntled from Deptford
Viv
I always thought that these topics were like a virtual conversation and that they evolve, It would be bloody boring to talk about the same subject all night and not introduce any 'what ifs' etc. So many of the posts have been raised so many times before ( yes I am probably guilty of that too) but how many times can people be expected to contribute to a 'finding work in France'? and not go off topic to some degree? Yes you can discuss the original posters qualifications but eventually it is bound to divert into the state of the French economy or something and what is really wrong with that? Monika
Yes I agree with Viva, that is the whole fun of this forum, "going off topic", somebody can always bring it back!!
bedders
One motoring forum to which i belong, had a thread which started off with the imminent closure of Jaguars Browns Lane factory in Coventry, and ended up discussing the merits of lend/lease during the war! Sorry to go off topic.

The Riff-Raff Element
One of the things I like about this forum (and I no longer bother withany others) is that discussions do quite often range away from theoriginal post and frequently become more interesting as a result. That's conversation.. I didn't follow the "loans" post - though I madesome comments at an early stage - so I have no idea how or why itdegenerated (perhaps someone could PM me the highlights?), but I canunderstand that the Mods can sometimes have a difficult time when atread splits into two: a sensible bit and a barking mad bit. I too havelost some cherished witticisms to the dreaded blue pencil, but I thinkthat one just has to be a bit philosophical and be pleased that thisforum is comparitively civilised (and occasionally useful: I don'tactually need this forum to conduct my life in France, but I rather like having it nonetheless) and such interventions are mercifully rare. Russethouse
http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/620274/ShowPost.aspxI have replied to your question in the thread concerned, I too enjoy the way that conversations take a turn and evolve into something quite different. We rarely take action but this weekend we have had complaints both on the forum and direct to the mods regarding certain posts. Sometimes if you remove one post those that follow don't make sense and that is why so many posts were deleted.Just shows you can't please all of the people - last weekend we had Frank O Fyle complaining that one other poster was trying to hi jack his thread[8-)]
Patf
Those people who have been members for more than 2 years(?) willremember the old format where you could jump in at any point in thethread and make a comment or start an argument. That led to severaloff-topics in the same thread and though a bit confusing could bevery exciting too. I miss that. But almost impossible to moderate. Pat. Did I ever tell you about the perfect set of 6 concentric smoke rings I once blew at a dinner party given by the Premier of British Columbia? The chief of a tribe of native americans, who was also at the party, thought I was propositioning his daughter. I find that Cohibas produce the best rings - and they're a damn good smoke, too. Aah, Havana! What a wonderful city! - even better than Rome in my opinion, though the ice cream you buy on the Spanish Steps is the best in the world. Now Spain, there's a place I don't like. But since you've brought it up, I think that there aresome Spanish breads that are really rather good. There's this one theydo in Catalonia (is that really Spain? No matter.) with bits of smokedham in it that's great with fino sherry (the one that forms littleblooms of mould on the surface that are used to make Columbian beavercheese, not British Columbia, the other one, though isn't it odd howthey both have indians?)I think I'll go to bed and read. Tresco
.... I think that one just has to be a bit philosophical and be pleased that this forum is comparitively civilised (and occasionally useful: I don't actually need this forum to conduct my life in France, but I rather like having it nonetheless) and such interventions are mercifully rare. (Jond)This is very close to how I feel. It is civilised, but there do seem to be a lot of interventions at the moment. Does that mean if a few more people complained formally every time something gets on their nerves, which seems to be what this is about, that those threads will also be locked?. I think I may have made only one move which could be described as a formal complaint in well over 2 years, and it wasn't anything to do with my 'nerves'. Should I speak up more via pm to admin? And in an attempt to get back to the Great British Tradition of deflecting the original issue by bringing back the humour, so evident in this thread (well done everyone) Jond, you will be happy to know that some of your gems are still here. Here's one for anyone who's been to Ikea recently (or ever). [/quote] The mods rarely intervene, delete posts or lock threads, and frankly if threads go harmlessly off topic, so be it. However when some members post the same, off topic response to every post by certain other individuals, and we receive complaints that add to our own unease, then action will be taken. There is a PM and email system for private gripes or notify the mods. The mods and admin consider every complaint, if justified then action is taken, if not, it isn't.Unusually, there have been several interventions over the weekend, and they all stem from the same root, lets hope that period is over now .
