Dick Smith
I have just found, on the BBC History website, a long series of short colour films made in 1928 (yes, colour) by Claude Friese-Green. They record a journey along the entire west coast of England and Scotland, and are often of fantastic quality. Have a look:http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes/openroad/launch.shtmlApparently they have been in the hands of the BFI for some time, but the projection process for the 2-colour stock made showing them difficult. Now they are going to be shown on BBC2, Tuesdays 9pm. With Dan Cruickshank, but you can't have everything.

Just Katie
What I hate about living in Wales is the TV. No 1920's in colour for me. History of Merthyr Tydfil instead for the 4th time in 6 months! Whoopie

Miki
"......chopsing"It says in the book of Slang, that word is from Stoke. Are you from the Newington part Katie [;-)]
Hoddy
"chopsing"Thanks so much for that - I haven't heard it since I was a child. I don't think it would have been just in Stoke, though, Miki. It was fairly widespread in east Staffordshire.Hoddy
SaligoBay
My neighbour has a Staffordshire. It ran at speed into the back of his leg and snapped the bones in two. [+o(]
Just Katie
I am unsure where 'chopsing' comes from but I believe it is quite widely used in my neck of the woods "Eees chopsing outa back" or more refinely "He's conversing in the garden"
