vervialle
My french neighbour died on Friday after a short illness, I have known him and his wife for fifteen years,I watched him getting the harvest in working round the clock, I could set my watch by the time he collected the eggs each morning, his vegetable patch was a work of art, he would start a game of boules in the lane on a hot barmy August evening, but most of all he looked out for all of us,it is truly the end of an era, I would very much like to buy a bench in his memory to put under the oak tree in the middle of our hamlet where everyone passsed the time of day,do you think this is a bit english I would hate to offend. Kitty
I think that it sounds likely a lovely idea. So what if it is English (and is it and English thing to buy a bench?) - kindness and thoughtfulness extends over borders.

The Real Katie
Reading this I am surprised they don't do this in France also. If the bench thing is new to them they will be overwhelmed with your generosity
Hoddy
Vervialle, if you do decide to go ahead, I can offer an appropriately engraved brass plaque free of charge. I know how you must feel, I cherish my good neighbours.Hoddy
