Gordon Bennett

Gordon Bennett came up on another thread.

James Gordon Bennett Jr., American newspaper tycoon and sports enthusiast,

who among other things sent Stanley to look for Livingstone, had to break off his engagement and went into self-imposed exile on his

yacht in Europe after mistaking his future father-in-law's blazing

fireplace for a toilet and peeing into it when he arrived blind drunk

for a New Year's Eve party.

Anton R thought that Mr Bennett's actions at his fiancé's father's house would probably have been acceptable behaviour in French society.

That aside, my question is, is there a French expression which can be used in place of the phrase 'Gordon Bennett' to convey utter amazement and exasperation?  Or is the language deficient in this respect?
