Deimos
Interesting article in the Guardian last week (http://www.guardian.co.uk/immigration/story/0,,1857947,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=11).For me not so interesting that the UK population is growing (more through immigration plus a slight birth rate rise and death rate decline), but rather that there are now record numbers of people departing the UK to live overseas. They list Spain and France as the most common destinations, so maybe we are not yet seeing the much talked about decline in the popularity of France as somewhere for the British to emigrate to.Ian
Frederick
I have just read of the huge problem in the Canary Islands with the loads of boat people from West Africa who are landing on their shores. Many of the boats .... if they make it.... are filled with small children who have been put in them by their parents . It seems the Canary Islands authorities now have to raise and educate these abandoned children and are now appealing for help from Brussels to handle the growing problem . and of course fund it ...The parents who do this must be desperate ....West Africa is where the money needs to be spent on the povety in order to stop this now .......or ...we are in for a very troubled future when Africa moves North .. Russethouse
Buried in the financial pages was a little snippet that said the French equivilent of the CBI asked all the Presidential candidates to attend their annual meeting, all declined. I wonder what those emigrating make of it?
