Hoddy
Dick, I've looked carefully in the moderator's section of the forum and it isn't there either.Presumably it's winging its way around somewhere in the ether.Hoddy
Dick Smith
Ah well. It just said that we have had tutor several kids in the last couple of weeks, in the use of the knife and fork. I've seen kids eating baked beans with their fingers...
Cassis
Don't you have spoons?
Dick Smith
Yes. We have spoons. And knives, forks, plates and lickle paper cups, but we also have kids who seem to live entirely on pizza. Or other fist-food. I won't mention the kids who chew with their mouths open...It really is a worry, as they must get no social training at home at all. YCCMB
Although I understand it's not allowed any more, when I was studying in france as part of our "bizutage" we were made by the big boys and girls to eat all our meals without cutlery for the first week. Pasta was difficult.Soup was a complete b**ch

KathyC
Sorry that this quote's from the Daily Mail ( I Googled it, honest) but it does indicate the scale of the problem and the steps needed to tackle it.www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=386879&in_a_source=
Dick Smith
And the thing which is always left unsaid is that very often these children are from deprived families where they will never get the necessary social skills or aspirations to move to more skilled work, better situations etc. Apart from anything else they are condemned to meet and marry similar deprived people and the cycle carries on. This also goes for antisocial attitudes, poor social values and so on. I assume that is the same in France in the new towns?
Val_2
I think its the same the world over where the same social groups keep together. I have noticed however, the huge increase in pregnant teenagers now over here inBrittany compared to recent years, perhaps they have cottoned onto the fact they get free housing and all the benefits going and then their boyfriends can move in too! My son says there are three girls in the club in his LycƩe at the moment, unheard of before.
Alexis
We have a "naughty girl" hostel here. You see five or six young girls pushing top of the range pushchairs around as they all go shopping. Then they all vanish and a couple of months later, a new lot arrive. Val_2
Yes I noticed the top range buggies these girls were pushing last week in Brest. Wonder who is paying for those? A controversial thought, but with all these pensioners now and more to come in the next twenty years than ever before, we need all the youngsters we can get to keep the pensions and health system going to pay those OAP's.Supply and demand perhaps

If they're having babies and/or on benefits that only worsens the situation!
Alexis
I'm afraid that the girls I have near me are not old enough to have left school.
