Beryl
I received through the post a copy of a Brittany magazine aimed at expats. It was free and a pleasant read but I am at a loss to know how they found me.The only Brits I know in France are in cyber space and I have never subscribed to this mag, yet it came addressed to me.I was used to getting unsolicited mail in the UK and don't mind getting it in France, but I don't know how they found me, short of trawling the phone book for foriegn names!Am I on an ethnic register somewhere?[8-)]
Tony F Dordogne
Got a land line phone Beryl? Most of our junk mail comes thanks to France Telecom - there is a spelling error on our address with them and the error is repeated with 95% of the junk mail that we receive. Choochoo
Yes, we are the same. France Telecom have us listed at number 12 instead of 14, guess what ? all our junk mail comes addressed to us at number 12, unfortunately our postie knows our name and diverts it, shame !John
Beryl
Ah yes, I do have French Telecom. However, I don't think this was sent en masse like most junk mail, some poor so and so has probably had to wade through a list or disk to seek out the names of those most likely to suscribe. Tony F Dordogne
May want to see my other post about scams through the post - saw one of the flyers yesterday at a friend's home and it's almost exactly the same as the genealogy scam in the UK and Holland. Loiseau
I had an email today from somebody who was connected with a magazine on Brittany, asking if I would list it on my website. Sounds a bit like Beryl's people - they must be on a publicity drive! I had a look at their website, and thought the mag looked quite interesting - especially if you are Brittany-based (which I am not). So I think it may be a bit unfair to call it a scam. Unless anyone knows otherwise...Angela
timc17
It's not just advertisers who use this method.A few month's back two Brits peddling The Watchtower appeared at our gate. When i asked how they found us they said they trawled the phone directory looking for English sounding names.
