What Remains of Joan of Arc

Recommended Posts

Interesting that they mentioned that the fragments had been  "validated" by scientists in 1909. And when was she beatified? In 1909. Obviously a coincidence [;-)]

Oh well, if it was her or not it's not going to stop me being accused of being  responsible for her death several times a year [:P]

Nothing to do with me anyway. My forebears were herding goats somewhere

near Abidjan at the time. Anyway, the English who burned Joan D'Arc (as

I point out not infrequently to my neighbours) were pretty much French

anyway, descendents (if a little admixed) of the 1066 invaison. The

Hundred Years War was therefore a little local difficulty and nothing

to do with dear Old Blighty. I might have got the details wrong, but

I'm sure the idea is about right.

There couldn't have been much left of Jeanne after they'd finished burning her - I seem to recall from visiting Rouen that they chucked the leftovers in the river - but some enterprising soul may have kept a few bits for eBay.  For all anybody knows, the bone could be anybody's even one of Jon's or my ancestors from the Languedoc.

As for the Turin Shroud, been carbon dated and can't be as old as was originally thought - though the Church and conspiracists seem to agree on this one to take a bop at the scientists.

For a non-history history book, Michael Baigent 'The Jesus Papers' - now that does stretch credulity!
