Teamedup
I didn't need a coat when I went out shopping today and everyone is saying that this weekend is going to be estival. I have never known such a warm January, I live where we NEED cold, we need wet in the valleys and snow on the mountains regularly until the end of the season. It is also said that 50 years ago there was a 'hot' winter, but I have had little success in looking that up as yet. Unknown
Something is definately going on with the weather. I live in Deux Sevres and its been very mild here for the past 3-4 days, I haven't even had the need to light the fires. We have also been inundated with flies, 2 days ago I swatted 80 flies that had come into the house. Also, our daffodils are about half way through. What does this mean??????????/
Iceni
We will suffer when the cold weather returns in February (so says our farmer neighbour).Johnnot
Teamedup
Our farmers are saying that the 'warm' will stay until March. IF it does the ski season will be a catastrophe.
Lori
Been unseasonably warm here too. The last 3 weeks have seen afternoon temps between 12 and 17 ! Absolutely amazing and weird. We have had no frost on the ground at night in weeks. Saving a bit on heating fioul, but we too need the cold and the snow and some rain. Otherwise, like 2005, the water restrictions will start in April. Nice and windy here today too.

Deimos
I always had thought that winters would tend to be "warm and wet" or "cold and dry". I had thought that it depended on the stability and size/position of the "Azores High" (pressure area). I thought that the type of weather we get depends on how far north the high extends (and thus how high it's pressure is, etc.). Cannot remember where I got this idea but I must have read it somewhere. However, as I cannot remember where it may not be reliable.Ian
cooperlola
3 nights only below zero this winter - very odd. Thank goodness the wind has dropped today - Peres Noels Grimpants all over the place!
Lori
Dotty, we've had very little rain. If we end up like 2004 with a dry winter, there will be hell to pay in 2007. I checked the meteo for Bedoin this morning and Saturday's (tomorrow's) temps are calling for 19 !!!!! Last I checked this was January. I have never seen anything like this, but am only in my sixth year here. Will have to ask my farmer neighbors what they think. They are usually pretty accurate. JayJay
We've had quite a bit of rain & the temperature has been 12/14 even in the dead of night. The only trouble is the gales we've had. On & off, it's been really bad over the last couple of months & in the early hours of yesterday it ended up taking out a beautiful cypress tree. Let alone branches of various other trees.
