Tresco
...Is the title of a 4 part series on The World Service, starting tomorrow. It's repeated at various times throughout the day. It might be useful for those of us who need an English Language booster in trying to understand French Foreign Policy. Below is the BBC's publicty blurb for the programme, taken from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/radio/wk14/mon.shtml "France Versus The World Ep 1/4 Monday 2 April 9.05-9.30am BBC WORLD SERVICE On the eve of critical French Presidential elections, Lucy Ash explores how well prepared key areas of France's public life are to deal with the challenges of the 21st century, particularly globalisation. Combining location reporting with analysis, Ash takes a forensic look at French foreign policy, citizenship and agriculture, before considering what the future might hold for the nation. Central to this investigation is France's claim to have exceptional policies that deserve a special place in the world and Ash attempts to establish whether this claim still holds true. France prides itself on punching above its weight on the international stage. Its foreign policy offers an alternative to the American model; in Africa, in particular, France has had a distinct influence. However, that influence is now being threatened by the USA, China and Russia. In a recent controversial speech in Mali, Presidential contender Nicholas Sarkozy said that French foreign policy over the last 20 years has been "wrong". Ash asks what might be the right policy, especially now that Rwanda has expressed an interest in joining the Commonwealth.
