WJT
Did anyone else see Newsnight tonight? Some things mentioned have been discussed here but very surprised to see something so negative about the French on the BBC. The segment was a Francophile journalist and a French woman that has lived in England for years. The French woman was meant to be showing the journalist the dark side of the French on a trip to France. On the trip they had interviews with various people in different professions and some of the things that was said was that the French had no sense of humour and really don't appreciate or like "funny". It was said that they take themselves too seriously and do not know how to laugh at themselves. It was said they even take the most mundane things in life very seriously as well such as even buying a baguette. Also that they were generally a very conservative nation that long for a monarchy. [8-)] And they no longer know how to cook and they have rested on their laurels for 20 years while the rest of the world has left them behind in this area.Oh yea, and that they are misogynists and that even included the women that hated other French women. One reason was given that Royal would not get the feminine vote was because she is too pretty and other French woman would be too jealous. Catalpa
I saw it and expected it to be interesting but it turned out to be just a froth piece. Or maybe everything raised in the segment is regularly aired and debated on these French forums so nothing seemed exactly incisive or newsworthy. We could all be Newsnight journalists. WJT
Yes, I guess you're right, in fact the journalist is probably a regular poster. [:)]
Will
Well, at least it makes a change from this sort of thing.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/6599675.stmAs the person responsible is the BBC Paris correspondent, I though she might also have presented the Newsnight piece, but alas, no.
