Container

Recommended Posts

we hope to move soon permanently to South Africa.

we will have a few things to take with us so i guess a small container will do.

my question is: will the container be left here so that we can fill it up or will everyhing be loaded in a truck and then put in the container by someone else?

many items are quite big so it would not be easy to put everything in boxes, so i think it would be easier for me to fill the container myselfh, but i'm not sure if  every item has to be checked by custom before it leaves the port? (...including a few dozens of tins of confit de canard , a few bottles of pineau and possibly a new woodburning pizza oven! [:P])

thanks Ron, i guess 95% of the questions asked on this forum could be asked directly to a proper

estate agent/notaire/doctor/chef/loyer/architect/builder/septic tank guru...

...i just ask in case someone had a similar experience...

Hi,

a friend of ours moved to SA last year and for the move a team of three young guys turned up in a small truck full of packaging, boxes, bubble wrap etc, they spent a day and a half careful wrapping and boxing up everything that stayed still long enough (guard your dogs!) they went into town to eat at night and slept in the truck, on the third day a larger truck arrived with the container and everything was loaded and off they went, seemed to be very organised.

good luck

Hi Tracy and Massimo

We have just packed up: all our cherished goods and chattels were gift wrapped by three charming gents in 5-ply packaging. On the last day they loaded everything into a container and this is now in storage. I mention this because a) they are an international company with offices all over the world, and b) we lived in Randburg for many years!!!!! so we realise what you are going through. Private email me quickly if you need more details as we fly out temporarily for Oz next Wed. before returning to take up residence FINALLY in Evian [long story..........].

Good luck
