Notaire and UK solicitors

OK now knowing that a swap is [possible for a French house with a UK house does anyone know of a solicitor (UK) that doubles up as a Notaire ie does the work required both sides of the Manche

AFAIK, there's no such person.  A notaire is uniquely a person working in France in this field and no one from the UK can "double up"!

As Sweet 17 says, you're unlikely to find a notaire operating in the UK. This is because a large part of what they do is basically tax collection for the French government. You might find a few qualified notaires in Britain, but I doubt if they would be set up to transact French property deals from there.

There are hundreds of Notary Publics in the UK.

I bought amy property in France from an English  family that had owned it since the 1950's.

I used a lawyer that was qualified to practice in UK and France and paid in pounds.

It is a few years ago but will look for his telephone number - it was a fixed fee of £650.

I resorted to him after the French Notaire who was originally instructed by the vendors spent a year drinking and playing golf rather than dealing with the property.

I didn't complain at the length of time as paid the original asking price and prices increased during the period.

The vendor was a lawyer and was going to sue the Notaire but I never found out what happened.
