ali-cat
In among one of the hundreds of advertising brochures we received, there was a toy duck which, when you pressed his foot, said "coin coin". Now, I'm sorry but as far as I'm concerned duck's "quack". But it has started to make me wonder about other French animal sounds. Do dogs "bark" or "woof", do cats "meow" or "purr". What about cows? There can't be another sound, other than "moo", for them ..... can there?!! [8-)]

Hoddy
It's even worse in my bit of the Dordogne - according to the older Occitan speaking residents, cockerels say "lousercanterana". I'm sure there are others, but this is the only one I've learned.Hoddy
Christine Animal
Have you ever heard a French person trying to say "cockadoodledoo", it's far worse than Southampton ! [:P]

cooperlola
How come my British dog says "woof" but the locals seem to understand him (well they reply, at least)? Are animals bi-lingual by nature?
Clair
I liken it to British-English and American-English... They sound almost the same and you can understand both [:P]
ali-cat
I'm upset with the fact that now, not only can I not speak to my French neighbours ..... but I can't even say good morning to his cockerel, without getting the pronunciation wrong!! [:-))]I would also like to say that I've spent all day listening ..... but none of our cats, even Ellie our French baby, say "ronron"!! They purr!! cooperlola
However, all cats - from whichever side of the channel, have the nice gutteral rs off to a tee. Whether they ronron or whether they purr, they have great French accents.

Gluestick
The dog we sort of share, Buster (who is an absolutely gorgeous Springer), is tri-lingual: so there!Since he splits his time nowadays between Andalucia, Nord Pas de Calais and England, he knows that "Where are the cats?" is precisely the same as "¿Dónde están los gatos?" and "Où sont les chats ?"Smarter than the average pooch!
