The mods might have an idea as they have the IP addresses of the computers used by members

Oh no they don't...and in case you can be who you like, at hotmail, yahoo or google.......

Does anyone really care - I certainly gave up worrying what people 'elsewhere' thought about me. a long time ago.

Do they know me  ? No

Do I care what people who don't know me think ? No

Am I true to myself ? Yes

End of.

I thought we weren't allowed to go "off subject" on threads.  I'd still like to know what's happened to DIY France.  This thread has gone on for 4 pages not one post answering my original question.

If that happened, Oscar, there would be no one left in the Forum......

I hope that you find your DIY.  I was looking for it yesterday out of curiosity but wasn't sure where to start.  What's the website address?  Am I allowed to look at it or are we only allowed one Forum at a time?  I only belong to this one (so far).

Quote from the post directly under your one

"If you mean the forum where some of the old members post, it's working again this morning."

Why not PM or Email  the people who use it who have posted to this thread and ask them what is happening, they are more likely to know aren't they?

Ron, my understanding is that there was a fire at the place where the hosting servers were located, followed by a problem as the fire brigade would not let anybody in to initiate the data recovery procedures. I think it is all sorted now, so I am sure you will be welcome if you log in.

Will, I presume that you meant Oscar can now  log in, I only contribute to this Forum.

Almost anybody can - they're not fussy [:D].

Unlike another France forum I recently heard about, where you get banned if your 'level of activity' doesn't come up to the owner's expectations and you can apparently only join by invitation. Needless to say I have not been invited, so can't tell you how true that is.[;-)]

Oh but you are wrong there Cathy.  There are many, many, many threads where Mods have said they will lock or delete them if contributors don't get back on topic, and it isn't just ones where people are getting abusive.

Ah yes Oscar, but often a request to get back to the original topic is also a gentle reminder that the code of conduct is being stretched almost to breaking point.  Being abusive is one way of breaking the code of conduct, but there are others too.

OK, Oscar.  Point taken.  Sometimes it's quite fun how the threads wander off on a tangent.  But I do realise that the original poster may be a bit taken aback.  Usually, they get back to the subject.  A bit like conversation generally?

We are wandering off subject now, I suppose.  Have you found the Forum, Oscar?  I see that Will says that there was a fire there.  We had a fire in the next village, fronting the ocean (department 33) -  a car caught alight at 3am (possible vandals) and the wind fanned the flames into a restaurant business.  No one hurt.  It would be funny if the website is done from the ocean village - the restaurant in question is run by a whole load of surfers of different nationalities.

Now look here you lot.  In order to keep on topic (not neccesarily this one) what exactly is the DIY France forum?  I did a google, posted a question and Roofer Ron told me to s*d off.  I'm not used to being spoken too like that.  Keeping on topic (look at earlier closed brackets) I see that forum members are complaining about the lack of prompts about receiving PMs.  I have never received an email about PMs, perhaps it's because I have never received a PM.  Why am I so unpopular?[:'(]  Short answers please.........and "irritating git" is not the answer I am looking for.

Good question, all I can say is that it's another forum for discussions about France, tends to be quite frivolous, a bit anarchic, and is unmoderated, and we aren't really supposed to talk about it here because it is home to some who have been banned from this forum. What I do know is that it has s** all to do with DIY - why it's called that is something that only its owner can answer.

I'm not surprised you aren't happy. The forum under discussion here doesn't have many members so it is easy to search for individuals (unlike Total France which is the one that comes up when you google 'DIY France Forum') and none are called Roofer Ron or anything like that.

Edit - I'd send you a PM to tell you where to find it, but that wouldn't be any use [;-)]

Who is Roofer Ron?  I've never come across him on Total France. Which is not THE DIYfrance forum, though it does look like it's cobbled together out of old tin cans. I am occasionally seen posting here, though: Le Forum du bricolage .  Flo is a builder, isn't he?  Maybe that's why it's the DIY forum.  Cos you're better off DIY-ing.
