7 years here...it's a record

Recommended Posts

Well, in 10 days time it will be a record of staying in  a house for this length of time......so we must love it here.....but then I thought this would be a good opportunity to say what I do not like about living here.....lousy tea, pot is never warm enough and usually a teabag with contents probably from an ashtray, coffee is not much better for different reasons, when taking back a purchase for a refund because the thing has fell apart....the customer is allways wrong! complain in a restaurant....mon dieu!!!!! the customer is allways wrong! flies.....and more flies, french men p****g where ever they want, and after nearly 7 years....they still can not understand me?[:D]

Still here though!! We will have managed 6 years in a few weeks time and after 14 houses in 21 years that's pretty good going. I think if you returned to UK you could probably ditto the same complaints. Must say we had a bit of a shock today with regard to the property prices falling in France. We had our eye on a wreck up the road,I mean 4 walls, requiring new roof and complete redesign and re-build. However the view right down the Rance by the old mill was quite something. We put in our enquiry,SOLD on day one, full asking price of 380.000 euros plus fees!!!!!!  This house needed an estimated150.000euros spending on it.  So it obviously depends on where you are and the view. Our only regret on living where we are is that we wish it was the other side of the road with that view.If I look out of our skylight I can JUST see the Rance,I feel a large dormer coming on. Only other regret, daughters /granddaughters the other side of the Channel, mind you as one 11 year old is here at the moment,I'm not sure I can keep up with the pace.

Regards.

Lovely posts, both.  Make me think we might have a future here.  Mind you, we are greenhorns, only been here 16 months and hardly knew France or French (language and people) before that.

Now looking to move house.  The house itself is very nice but I feel unsettled in our area.  Have Brit and French friends so moving would be traumatic in some ways.

Don't know exactly what would be ideal.  A nicer area, prettier village but then, again, perhaps none of that matter much if you feel liked and "at home".

Damned near killed ourselves building a shed in the sun today and know that, if or when we move, the bloody thing would have to stay put as there is no way we want to dismantle and put it up again elsewhere!
