woolybanana
Sarko called some farmer a pauvre c on when he was touring the annual farmers' bash in Paris. Now however, someone has used the same words back and is being hauled before the courts for abusing the head of state. Something rotten in the state of Denmark then when one Citizen is able to use words which another can't?http://www.lepoint.fr/actualites-politique/casse-toi-pov-con-un-homme-au-tribunal-pour-offense-au-chef-de-l/917/0/271845

TWINKLE
Somebody started a thread here http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=853758 asking what con means and it got locked! You can therefore assume that if we tell you here we'll get into trouble. I will PM you if you like - but please don't be offended.[:)]
TWINKLE
If you read through the other forum thread you will be able to get a good idea of what was said. Then I don't have to PM you a naughty word[:$]
tegwini
Thanks Twinkle for the threadThank goodness the forgettery these days is better than the memory - I shall not memorise that to use it again. Still, what can you expect from a politician ?RegardsTegwini
5-element
I have always thought that a milder version is "pauvre c onnard" - very slightly less offensive, but not quite a term of endearment either....
Frenchie
To me con / connard = kif kif [:D] ( the same)I was furious when Sarko said that, because, as parents, we struggle for our children not to use rude words, but what if they see the head of state use them on TV ?? it then seems quite normal ... tegwini
No it's not Frenchie!M Sarko has a mucky mouth and it needs a good cleaning with soap & water. That's what parents did to children for bad language in my childhood. Doubtless it is not allowed these days. And, here in the UK there's also a lot of bad language on TV - awful, I sometimes depair ... and change channels! But, there are young kids in the UK with bedroom TVs watching vile stuff that I would not want to watch.I am becoming a 'Grumpy Old Woman'RegardsTegwini
