Judith
And I'm following on with "my old cocklinnet", (sorry forum doesn't like the words of that well known song unless I miss the space out!) or rather, in my case, the computer and the TV etc! My broadband connection ceases today, so may not be back online for at least a week if all goes according to plan! It's been a long time it feels in coming, and there were days over the last week or two when I thought I'd never get it all packed, but yes, it was all done (just) by the time the van arrived - which I gather is not normal - and so I do feel very chuffed with myself as well as absolutely shattered. We could have chosen a better time to move the money across, but at least the flat is sold which in this market is all to the good as I don't see that the economy is going to improve greatly in the immediate future. Thanks to all those who I feel are my friends on this forum, I can now begin to apply that information I have been garnering for the last three years by being part of this useful little beastie!I will return to the forum in the fullness of time, but until then - au revoir et merci! I am about to move for the second time since coming to France and I doing a daily trip to the dechetterie/red cross/where ever with all the stuff I bought over but have never used! Judith
Hi folks, and thanks for all the messages! At last, I am back online, only 3 weeks since I lost the internet connection in London, and 2 and a bit since I arrived here in (well it was) sunny Languedoc! Everything from family illness to finding we needed a livebox to get me online scuppered the timing, but this is the proof, back on my computer today, straight on, passwords all remembered - and back to find my friends here.Boxes still being unpacked, major problem lack of storage space, but I'm still glad I brought it all - though now I have got two houses into one, I will be clearing out the old stuff I had here pro tem, and using the nice stuff I brought over. And there will be time to read all those books I brought (never tell a librarian, retired or not, to throw away books!!!!!) when the nights draw in and there is time in front of the cuisinere to settle to read them all.....Pads, when you are next over, email me, and we'll try to meet! Judith
PadsThat was quick - I went off to reply to another message and there you were. The settling in is a bit weird, I still don't quite realise I am not going back to London, and that it's not a holiday but real retirement. The way things are going, I shall be well occupied, organising the house - it is amazing how long it can take you just to run the house, making food, shopping etc, but hey, what else am I planning to do??? I've already made contact with some of the organisations I belonged to in the UK who have French counterparts, and I'm hoping that will bear fruit, otherwise, catching up with all the things I never had time to do when I was working is on the agenda. It is turning autumnal now, though I am not yet in winter clothes, mainly because even though I have unpacked them, they have not all yet found a home, and I cannot find them all! It is still sunny, on and off, the temperature has dropped considerably in three days, and we woke today to pouring rain, but it has since cleared and I got some washing dry. Now that is something I probably couldn't do in the UK by now!Keep smiling, it won;t be too long before you can come out too!
