Kitty
In The Times today. People going into French supermarkets, loading up trolleys and refusing to pay, stating that the food is for the poor - and getting away with it?http://timescorrespondents.typepad.com/charles_bremner/2009/01/time-again-for-a-little-french-revolt-.html?OTC-widgets&ATTR=tolblogs
woolybanana
One rather suspects that the neckless tattooed thugs and former deviants who have spent their earlier years at Her Majesty's Pleasure and who are called security guards would probably cause seriously damage to any innocent pensioner trying to nick a Bounty and would plaster the inner organs of those taking a whole trolley right round the shop and car park. Clair
[quote user="Cathy"]In The Times today. An article I read at the time described the items targeted: champagne, salmon, foie gras...The argument is that it is not theft nor fraud, but extortion, a new form of redistribution. It's called 'l'autoréduction": http://www.rue89.com/explicateur/2009/01/04/lautoreduction-ni-vol-ni-escroquerie-plutot-une-extorsion (in google English HERE)http://eco.rue89.com/2009/01/01/autoreduction-au-monoprix-pour-redistribuer-partir-sans-payer (in google English HERE)More here (in French). woolybanana
An excellent idea; the supermarkets are stripping the wallets of every person in the world.
Chancer
I saw a good report recently on les pique assiettes, there seems to be a lot of admiration for them.
tegwini
For shame WoolyNasty, scruffy anarchists are doing this for the poor ??? And you approve of this ? Most would call this THEFT - and ultimately the customer pays for theft. Food costs may have gone up recently, but our parents and grandparents spent a much larger % of their income on food than we do, and they had to use small shops. I can remember the first times my parents went to a supermarket, and it was cheaper than 'The Meadow' local grocers. And is fois gras & champagne a necessity for the poor ? What tosh !! - most or many manage without these, including myself & I can afford them. Any plans to do similar in your local supermarket? Do let us all know.Tegwini
Renaud
"Robin Hood has moved from Sherwood to Monoprix"So will the Sheriff of Nottinghan (a Norman, as I recall) join the board of Monoprix or even Sarko's cabinet?
