Sinister Obama

Recommended Posts

I couldn't help noticing Obama is left handed which has many advantages especially it seems when stringing together coherent sentences supposedly. Not quite sure how that idea fits in with his swearing in. Left handed people have been derided for centuries and are even said to not live so long.

Interesting article here:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/oct/24/barack-obama-mccain-white-house-left-handed

This one contradicts some of the facts in the first article.

One thing I am sure of is writing with a fountain pen is not easy for the left-handed.
Is that where we get the word 'Sinister' from?  ie the Latin for 'Left'
Yes. Read the articles - left handedness has been derided for many centuries and it is probably a useful trait.

Wiki says that five of the last seven U.S presidents have been left-handed: Ford, Reagan, George H W Bush, Clinton and Obama.

Famous left handers include Joan of Arc, Alexander the Great , Julius Caesar, Napoléon, Queen Victoria,
King George VI, Prince Charles and Prince William, Fidel Castro, Jack-the-Ripper and Bart Simpson.

I noticed that he was a leftie when I saw some TV footage this week.

Since left-handed people make up about 10% of the population it's quite a roll call. Prince Charles? I didn't know about him, but I give you Michelangelo & Da Vinci. (at Art College lefties made up 50% of the classes.)  Famous lefthanders.

I noticed he was a leftie too, albeit when he stated 'I'm a leftie, get used to it...' to about 1,000 reporters as he signed a document on the day of his inauguration.

I'm glad no one* had really noted it before.

I certainly hadn't but there are those people who think being a 'leftie' indicates something terrible, still.[:-))][;-)]

*barring deranged conspiracy theorists, that is.
as a French speaker I couldn't believe it when I first heard the expression 'caque handed' - it's terrible
Babel Fish translates this as "herring barrel" handed - what's terrible about that ?

I had always written it as kak handed - but since moving to France have changed to cac. Isn't etymology fun ? or is that entomology ?

One of our leftie friends has always said that a left handed person is in their right mind. She is a very clever lady and I for one wouldn't argue with her on that...

I hope that BO is a breath of fresh air for the States, they certainly need it!
To a French speaker, caque means poo.
It means the same to an English speaker. It's a word often spoken but rarely written, which, perhaps, explains the cack-handed attempts at spelling. [Www] [;-)]

cack

  • noun Brit. informal excrement.

  — ORIGIN Old English, from Latin cacare ‘defecate’.

cack-handed

  • adjective Brit. informal 1 inept; clumsy. 2 derogatory left-handed.

Having been 'cack-handed' for 54 years I can only say for myself that I appear to be intelligent, quick-witted, soul of the party artistic -

Oh yeah - I am also obviously sinister  and a fib-teller- so I must be ideal for a politician - next question how many MP's are left-handed?
