ViVienne
I'm so envious of people who can just chuck a bag in the back of the car and go. I never seem to master the knack, after 8 years of travelling to France and back several times a year we still load the car up, in April we will be taking an armchair a large telly a flat pack sideboard, light fittings and I may find some room to squeeze in a few clothes! the dogs are staying at home so no cuddly toys......we are still having some building work done so it will be some time yet before we can travel light and I am just a weeny bit of a shopaholic so there are always "bargains" travelling in both directions. We always manage to look like refugees at the ferry terminal. How do those of you who "commute" backwards and forwards manage. And is it just us? dave21478
When I moved here permanantly, all my worldly posessions fitted in the back of a Peugeot 406 estate! And most of that was my tool box.Quite often when I fly back to Scotland for brief visits, I have whats in my pockets and nothing else. I have never been a fan of having "stuff" - cant abide clutter etc so I just live with the bare essentails for comfort.
Mr Coeur de Lion
We arrived in France from Australia with 2 suitcases and a dog, nothing else.
Judith
When I was travelling back and forth, I kept a duplicate set of "requireds" in France, and so only brought those items (such as spare glasses) which I needed with me at all times. However, I found my luggage was often packed with items I wanted to leave here - so the case (often a briefcase) went back very light. No car then, so it was train or fly, so had to get used to travelling light. But now I have a car ...... well that's another matter!

Keni
I'm the same - this time we have the tumble dryer (after five years of trying to dry the clothes in winter I have given up, we don't use it in the UK).Then there are all the sheets and towels we bought back to wash - see drying above. Then we will have the contents of the shed, as when we sell and move into a flat where will it go? I have ready made numerous tip visits but we still seem to have half the world in the car each time we visit!
ViVienne
Glad it's not just me, we live in such a throwaway society in England that we recently got (for free) a large nearly new squishy sofa and armchair because somebody had moved to a new house with a smaller lounge and they were going to dump it!!!!! It's ideal for the place in France we have also had a dishwasher, dressing table & t v cabinet all from people who just didn't want them anymore, the dishwasher was practically brand new. This stuff would have cost a lot of money to buy in France so we have been willing to load up the car......wonder if anyone in Southampton is getting rid of a tumble dryer....... Keni
So when we make the final move to France and we discover that we didn't need to bring the three sofas, four beds and more besides but could not live without them, is there perhaps a freecycle group around Nontron? - You can see I'm thinking ahead, be proud of me!
