Albert the InfoGipsy
The thread in 'Other Topics' about there being too much non-French content here triggered this off. I've been interested to see that various subjects of particular interest to Brits in France get different exposure on the fora that I visit. For example, the whole E106/CMU saga was very high profile here but on TF (the other forum I frequent) it was hardly mentioned. On the other hand, the new auto-entrepreneur business regime has been widely discussed and speculated about on TF but there have been far fewer posts here, relative to the overall traffic.I can only guess that there is some sort of demographic reason for all this. Maybe there are more people of 'earning age' on TF or something like that.Just an observation.
Sunday Driver
If I recall, there was extensive debate over CMU exclusions on that other forum, but with the exception of Cooperlola's helpful contributions, it tended to driven by a cadre of long established expats who vehemently objected to 'newcomers' gaining benefit advantages that had not been available to those 'older' members when they arrived in France. In fact, the internecine savagery which surfaced there prompted me to scale back my own participation on that forum. On the other hand, the quality of discussion, information and mutual assistance on this forum was refreshingly civilised. Patf
I think there are more members on TF with families of school-age chidren. The forums called Families and Children in France, and French Education and Learning are always busy. So these people will need to make a living somehow. There are also frequently depressing threads on there about employment and earning problems, more than you see on here. [/quote]Yes. It was very unpleasant. There were two or three "old-timers" who appeared to be enjoying the worry and concern being expressed by people whose lives were in turmoil. When one of these "I said it would all end in tears" clairvoyants appeared to dismiss a cancer sufferer's worry as something they should have thought of before they moved (and before they even became ill with cancer) I stopped reading the health topics there. cooperlola
The different attitude to the health debate over there is the reason why I have two personas there (approved of by their mods, btw.) I always tried to keep my healthcare posts under the name of FHI so Ididn't have to get into too many ethical debates about the subject. I saved that for a couple of furious outbursts on another (now dead and gone) forum where I certainly got slagged off comprehensively for my opinions.
