The ratifying process is still under way, but unlikely to be derailed:

  • no more sales of alcoholic drinks or tobacco to those under the age of 18 (the previous age limit was 16)
  • no more free alcoholic drinks to those under the age of 18 in shops, cafés or public places (no more free apéros for them at the village fête)
  • no more sweets in the shape of cigarettes (I remember getting them from the caravane du Tour de France!)
  • controlled advertising of alcoholic drinks on the internet
  • no sale of alcoholic drinks at petrol stations from 6pm to 8 am (previously from 10pm to 6am)
  • no more sales of refrigerated alcoholic drinks at petrol stations
  • no more open bars where patrons pay a set charge and drink as much as they want
  • more power to the maire, who can prohibit the sale of alcoholic drinks in shops in his commune between 8pm and 8am
