woolybanana
I recently made, as I thought, an online purchase which was accepted by the site concerned. The next day they asked for faxed or written proof of my residence address. Now, to do this would take me 70 minutes plus a cost in fuel, but what concerned me is whether this is legal. It is apparently only required with purchases of more than €50. Remembering that they have all they need from my credit card, including my address, I am refusing this step.Anyone else had this? AnOther
If the delivery address differs from that where the where the card is registered then it is not uncommon for retailers to ask for fax copies of the card in question.
woolybanana
Hi Ernie, thanks, but it is the same address
AnOther
Hmm, that is unusual then.2 choices I guess, comply or tell them to get stuffed, cancel the order and buy elsewhere, if that is an option of course [blink]
woolybanana
I'll see what tomorrow brings. But that seems the obvious option.
mint
Wools, I had this the first time I bought an American fridge-freezer from Darty.Although card and delivery addresses were the same, I was asked for une pièce d'indentité. I didn't drive anywhere, Wools. I just scanned my passport into the computer and emailed them.Subsequent to this purchase, I have bought one or two other things from them (though not to the same value) and have never had this request again.I also bought a shed (many more times the cost of the fridge-freezer) from Castorama but there was no request for any identification. So, it must be company policy or some such. But, it really didn't bother me, Wools. Just did as requested and got my goods.
woolybanana
If you pay by card they have your address anyway
mint
Yes, I know, Wooly. Perhaps, they just wanted an autographed photograph of me, famous and sweet as I am?[6]
