Recommendation for skiing holiday insurance

Hello S17

The best insurance is usually available at the resort with the lift pass.  You can buy a carte blanche in France which gets you off the mountain and to a hosptial, refunds lost lesson payments etc.   You should find a similar insurance where you are going.

I would say the same as Panda.

Husband had this type of insurance when he broke his leg skiing, and the company paid up. He did have to produce a medical

certificate from the doctor who examined him just after the accident, which took some time to obtain as he didn't know at the time that this was necessary.

Hi, folks

I'd still like to find out about a holiday insurance that allows you to ski.  You know, would like the cover for lost baggage, cancellation of holiday, missing plane/train, etc as well as breaking your leg and having to be rescued off mountains.

I know I can't get insurance from a UK company and so would welcome recommendations for French ones.  No, I'm not going to compare prices between British and French insurance, just between French companies.

Anyone bought this sort of insurance before?

Hi Sweet17,

Your normal mutuelle generally covers you on holiday and you can add on baggage cover etc.  The specialist skiing insurance is called Carte Neige, it's an annual insurance and covers all mountain activities in France and Europe.  Have lived in ski resorts for years and have always used it, I believe it costs around 50€ these days.

Have fun, I'm still waiting for my kids to grow a little before we go skiing again.

Ladoix, thanks for your input.  I did ring our insurance agent (Generali) and she said that although the mutuelle will cover some of the expenses, I ought to have specific cover as the cost of sending a helicopter to pick up my poor injured  body is going to be expensive!

I am going to take out insurance for just this trip this time and then, if I do find somewhere nearer me to ski, I will definitely take out cover for the whole season.

Also, I don't know whether it complicates matters but where I shall be is going to be just over the border in Switzerland rather than in France itself.

BTW, I enjoyed your post on the child education thread and I hope to see you around on the Forum now that you have joined us![:)]

[quote user="gosub"]I have used Mondial and Europ before, but don't forget, that you could be covered on your French bank card if paying for holiday and or services, with it.

Les, just thought I'd let you know that I have this evening bought my insurance through Mondial.  Seems like I'm covered for the whole season.  Chance would be a fine thing.............skiing all season!

Thanks for the links:  I'm truly grateful.
