Alpinemist
Hi AllI have buildings and contents insurance with an agent who has insured me with AGF. I took out the insurance 6 years ago and receive a bill which I pay every year by cheque. I don't live in the property. Originally I received a policy but noticed that I now don't receive a renewal policy after I pay the yearly premium. Cheques are made out to the agents own name. The bill does have AGF on it. 2 questions - Should I receice a policy. Secondly I called the agent a few years ago to ask about increasing the buildings cover as the value of the property is a lot higher than when I purchased and he said it's not a problem it's covered to rebbuild. Policy is in french and he won't supply an english translation. Is this normal to have no value on the policy. I'm getting a gut bad feeling about the whole scenario. Many thanks
Clair
Hi AlpinemistWhy not contact AGF (now Allianz) directly with the details of your agent? They should be able to put your mind at rest. All my insurance contracts (house x2, car + scooter) are with MAAF and I receive a renewal notice 2 months before the expiration of the policy, followed by a contract on renewal. As to writing the cheque to the agent's name, I don't think it is unusual as he is most probably self-employed.
Policy is in french and he won't supply an english translation.
No reason why he should. The onus is on you to ensure you understand what you are signing and parting money for.
