Does anyone know what the equivalent of sending a registered letter is in France? I have some important documents to send to New Zealand and I wondered if there was a higher level than recorded (recommande)
Recommandé avec avis de reception: the document has to be signed for.

Recommandé is always signed for.

Recommandé avec avis de réception provides a proof of receipt (although there is no guarantee a foreign P/O will send the proof of receipt back to the sender).

I have had the same (lack of) result in both directions between the countries and to and from some others.

My verdict isthat  it is a total waste of money to expect a foreign postal system to adhere to the requests (usually written in a foreign language) on a letter or parcel received from overseas.

I suppose that it works for proof of posting but there are cheaper ways to acheive this.

If it works for Australia, maybe NZ would also notice there's a slip to return on your letter, and at least you'll have proof you sent it off. But the DHL way sounds more reliable. We've always received letters for house purchase etc from France to UK still with the slip that should have been returned, even though it's very bright and can't be missed.
