Gardengirl
What a depressing article! Such articles etc do make me wonder why young women have ended up like that following on from women's lib. It seems education in UK is not prized the way it was, although university numbers are up. Beats me![8-)]
Hoddy
I find that article deeply depressing too. I comfort myself by thinking of the young women I know in that age group who are not like that all and have chosen much more worthwhile career paths.Hoddy

Frenchie
What an interesting thread !I used to think there was no need for a spêcial day for women, but having read this thread, I think it may be useful to highlight the fact that equality is far , very far yet, and I agree, there is a lot of regression.I am a woman, I like to be feminine, I like a bit of make up and if it was not so dear why not hair extensions? It has never prevented any woman to use her brain !!Tha life of a woman is still hard work in most cases, I mean the average woman, who still does most of the chores at home and wants to be professional in her job, and a good mum at the same time. With a couple of female friends at work, we have noticed that the ones who don't attend meetings in the evening are mothers, because, yes, someone needs to collect the kids at school, and cook dinner, and hoover and .. and ... All in all, someone who is supposed to be great as a working woman, a mother, a wife, who's supposed to know how to cook and take care of a house , but remain sexy all the time..Women feel guilty if they can't achieve all that.Because society puts pressure on us women, we have to go back to work two months after giving birth ( in France) , but the media insist that we must breast feed our babies ... Inevitably many women feel guilty one way or another. At the moment there is a lot of controversy about a book by Elizabeth Badinter in France, I support her in what she writes.NO, she is not criticizing breast feeding or the choice not to work ! She s just writing that women should not have this guilt that society insidiously puts on their shoulders , freedom of choice should rule !He was right : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5lMxWWK218No offense intended to anyone, I think women should walk hand in hand with their partners/ husbands concerning thiese matters. Judith
Yes, of course you do. The point (I think) about IWD and such is - how do you (really) treat / behave to them??
