Deby
Today - had two pre-arranged appointments for 2 builders to do some remedial work at our french place. Neither showed up! It makes me furious, especially when I know people in France are struggling to even put food on the table! Duchess
woolybanana
They were working elsewhere?
Polly
Did you ring them to ask if they had a problem? Had they got your number to call you if they couldn't make the meeting?
Chancer
When you say remedial do you mean to put rectify works that they had already done, i.e. unpaid? If so then they pobably decided that they would be better off doing paid work elsewhere to put food on the table. Its been a few years now in France since the Chateau owners, Duchesses or otherwise have been able to call the shots with the serfs [;-)]
Weedon
I reckon Deby has a right to be a little miffed. I find it incredible that you have to chase people in order to provide them with an income. It's just about a year ago that I obtained a price to remove a shower cubicle and to fit a proper shower that doesn't freeze my FJ's when the cold water lying dormant in the horizontal jets home in like an exocet on my privates. The plumber (French) has been a few times since to do a few other jobs and each time I ask about my shower he just looks at me, shrugs and smiles. I thank him profusely and apologise for having the temerity to ask. Luckily the shower in question is in a separate small building that hasn't been used since my last butler (joke) left, so the plumber probably thinks that it's not a priority. The first few times I asked about the shower I admit to being a bit p***** off, but now I quite enjoy seeing who will be the first to break, when either he does the job or I tell him not to bother. If the shower had been my only source of cleaning myself I should by now be considering which of the many offers to accept, to increase the size of my tadger, that I receive every day. Any personal recommendations?
just john
Exactement, (Incidentally Weed' FJ's? wot the . . .?), On Sunday at 12.05 my Gas cylinder in the kitchen had the temerity to expire without notice; I drove 80k in a round robin of every Supermarche to get a replacement, could you believe it no enterprising person needed to open up anywhere to make a living or a replacement available! Fortunately when arriving home the gas bottle in the fire fitted the cooker[:$]As for builders, bow down three times to the east!

AnOther
On the other hand ask yourself how you would feel if they were actually working for you but disappeared for a few hours to go and look at other jobs ?BTW, does anyone actually use those jet things in the shower or it it like the Bidet where everyone thinks they should have one but few use them.I never use mine but I'm curious to learn how you plan to avoid the slug of cold water which has to precede the hot ? The cubicle was installed against my better judgement and I want it removed and replaced with a proper shower system. I did think that maybe the plumber planned to make it a winter job.......Incidentally, if you never use the jets how long has the stagnant water been lying there?[+o(]
AnOther
Mine has separate taps for the jets and being as I never turn them on as far as I'm concerned the water can stay there as long as it likes [;-)]
Deby
Well the guy showed up today - we called him this morning to see when he might like to grace us with his presence!!Other guy, no sign - we actually know him and have spent the odd 'Apero' together - so I imagine he thinks its okay!!We had a leak during the storms! Not at all any rectification by previous builders - just a few days work for honest pay! Chancer, No Idea what is meant by us calling shots with builders, artisans or the like - did you expect me to offer him cake! Yes, they had all our details, contact numbers and so forth. It saddens me that there are so many unemployed and companies cannot afford to take people on because of the social charges. deby
krusty
If tradesmen do not turn up for an appointment with me , I would not chase them , there are plenty more out there.
BIG MAC
Of course if you insulate the hot line and run onother back to the tank below it then you will create secondary circulation and eliminate the 'Dead leg' which presents a real Legionella risk.
