Mr Coeur de Lion
I was in Chateauroux today for an appointment at a clinic. I'd taken the directions off the pagesjaune and must have missed a turn as I was not where I should have been.I pulled over in a parking bay and asked a passer by directions to the road I was looking for. he didn't know, but as luck would have it, he had parked directly behind me and went to his car and switched on his sat nav and punched the address I was after in.Eventually it found the satellites, but instead of him just directing me, he got me to follow him and we were at the clinic within minutes.Just goes to show there are good people out there still and I would love to thank him, but alas it is not possible. Swissie
Great - I meet fantastic people all the time - they are out there still, as you say. Hope you got the results you wanted!

Kitty
I was told by a clergy uncle that one should never expect to repay a kindness. What you should do is to pass that kindness onto someone else i.e. you help someone else on another day.It was great advice and has enabled me to accept help from other people without thinking that I have to 'pay them back'. It has enabled me to help others with time and/or money. I just say 'don't expect to have to pay me back, just pass it on'. I can you that it is liberating. Pierre ZFP
It works in many little ways. If a motorist gives way to me or lets me cross the road on foot I never fail to acknowledge the act by a wave or nod of the head. My reasoning is that (apart from acknowledging the gesture) is that the person is more likely to do the same again and the next person may do it and so on. We all need to give and receive random acts of kindness from time to time I think.
mint
Totally agree, Pierre. And, anyway, isn't there some scientific explanation that altruism can be what helps a species to survive?
