(Fr1 news this evening)[/quote]I understand that Ryan air has been in trouble in France for employing staff on Irish contracts, but I don't know which staff. From the little I do know, O'leary seems to be on a sticky wicket but will quite happily stand corrected by anyone who can throw some light on this. How can employees on French soil based full time in France have Irish employment contracts and pay their taxes to Ireland especially as the planes fly from Luton to Marseilles or Brest to Marseilles? Have I got that wrong or is it the kind of 'creative' thinking that some of the expat community do so well?[;-)]
woolybanana
Under European law, which the French refuse to apply, transport workers can be employed in the country where the company is based or registered, even though they may work in another country.Their answer this evening is that it is the fault of the Irish for not harmonizing on French law. Théière
Because the EU, of which France is a member passed rules on workers on boats and planes that stated the nationality of the aircraft or boat determines where taxes should be paid but the creative thinking of the French has decided that rule shouldn't apply to them (of course it shouldn't only to the rest of Europe) I admire the way the country protects it's own workers and jobs but IMO it's just to give their own national carrier a chance but budget airline it won't be.
