Mr Coeur de Lion
to any who get their haircut in France.A French number 3 is NOT, I repeat NOT, the same as an English number 3!Mr Coeur de Lion is having to wear a beanie hat for the foreseeable future because of this small lack of knowledge. Mr Coeur de Lion
All I can say is, thank god I didn't go that far.I currently have what's normally referred to as a number 1 (being 1/8" inch). I wanted a number 3 (3/8").Of course, they thought these numbers referred to sizes in millimetres.
YCCMB
EEk! And in this weather, as well! Still, it does work both ways. We once had a (male) au pair who arrived with us and shortly thereafter went for a trim at the barber's. Only he came back with a buzz-cut. "I don't understand" he said (I HAD, in my defence, offered to go with him) "I say to barber, I just want a little hair". [:D]. I think him being Czech and the barber being Moroccan may have been an impediment to clear communication, though.

cooperlola
Paying somebody to cut your hair has always struck me as one of the biggest wastes of money ever. I just do not get hairdressers/barbers at all - for either sex. What is the point?[6]
Anton Redman II
About 20 years ago I mistakenly mentioned to a female colleague that all that happened if you were a bloke was every day you woke up and looked in the mirror. Some days you looked a couple of hours older some days you looked a couple of weeks older. Same mistake with a Moroccan barber.
Chancer
Same mistake with a Bolivian barber so I should have known better in France.I cut my own now but reckon my neckline must be pretty appalling as I dont have a second mirror.Richard, how come it took you so long to get caught out, have you been letting your hair grow since coming to France? Mr Coeur de Lion
No, the wife used to cut it, and this year, I've been managing to get it cut every time I went to the States. This was my first (and hopefully last) visit to a French hairdresser.
