robsimon
I am about to buy a house in the north of the Dordogne, it was a holiday home for many years and the owners have let the headge at the front of the property get far to high. in most places it has grown above the overhead cable that runs along the road and there is a concrete pole that is surounded by trees. would I have to have the power cut before cutting down the trees. or could I ask EDF to clear the trees that are close to the cable? would they charge me for this. Thanks
Joe
I had 28 conifers cut down by a local landscape man just after i moved in.4 of them were up to cable height.Edf would have charged me to cut them down.
Patf
EDF trimmed 3 trees at our last house which were at cable height. They didn't charge.Best to ring EDF (or get someone to ring for you eg Maire's secretary) and ask someone to come and have a look, and whether they would charge. woolybanana
Hang on a second here. In my experience, when EDF or their subcontractors cut or trim trees they tend to slaughter them wholesale, to the point that they leave only stumps. The subbies may be the worst as it is cheaper for them to cut low than to use the cherrypicker-machine and do the job properly. At the very least you should be there when anyone comes, and you can be sure that the subbies will come when it suits them. So, beware if you value your trees.
