Martin963
We normally ask for a redirection service when we're in France, and do a block six month booking as it is (or rather was!) cheaper than doing the specific dates that we need it for.Last year we paid £48.Ladies and Gentlemen, this year that esteemed organisation, so lovingly portrayed in Candleford, want - wait for it - £100 for six months. Please someone tell me I've got that figure wrong. It's actually cheaper for "the rest of the world" at £90 because rest of world is zero rated for VAT.This is over 100% inflation in a year.Zimbabwe here we come (incidentally, I read that their inflation is now lower than Britain's).Thank you Mervyn King for printing all that money, hyper inflation is here! We probably won't be redirecting this year. And as we have voracious small snails in our letter box that adore punching holes in correspondence our dear neighbours will be coming to the rescue. Gardengirl
The Royal Mail form I used for this visit has £73.45 against having mail forwarded to Europe; we have ours sent to son's house in UK, so I didn't pay that amount. But £73.45 is still a lot of money!
Martin963
Might I ask how long that covered gardengirl? The £100 I quoted is only valid until 1st April. Presumably they will permit themselves to put it up AGAIN after that date.I wonder if they had an interim price increase last year....
Gardengirl
That's the price the form shows for 6 months for Europe, but I can't see an end date on it. We only use it for 3 months at a time, this one started in January 2011.
Martin963
Gosh, well in that case they must have put the price up 1) between April 2010 when we last paid (and that was at the increased rate, the price went up just before we applied) and the moment you applied2) then again AFTER you applied, and 3) are planning ANOTHER increase in two days time.It is quite, quite outrageous. I'd have lived with the £73 odd, but doubling it in a year is just a step far too far. Thanks for the info by the way.
bubbles
We're lucky then, doing it the other way round and having mail redirected by LaPoste to England.Cost us 55euros for 6 months. All done on line with a credit card and totally painless. Martin963
Sadly it shows that inflation is - despite the figures - completely out of control in Britain, thanks to the Alice in Wonderland economic policy of printing money that the B of E are engaged in. I think everyone here knows there's a terrible crash coming - the money printing doesn't cure, just postpones - and many organisations have jacked up their prices because they're past caring!I may change my tune when I get over to France, but my impression is that whilst it's not good dans l'Hexagone it's less inflationary than here. Quillan
No, no, no Martin it's not printing money its quantitative easing. [;-)] As long as they print money and keep the interest rates low inflation will spiral out of control. England is now very far behind Europe and unless the UK puts interest rates up on April 1st, when ECB put's theirs up, I am afraid the outlook for the UK is far from bright. Mind you looking at prices at Tesco's on the web food is much cheaper in the UK as are things like toilet rolls and the other basics.
