idun
A friend of mine in France keeps an eye on our old house, no idea why, but she does. She keeps telling me that they have done, this, that and the other to the outside, so I cracked and looked it up via pagesjaunes.fr and looking at the vue aerienne. And they have their little arrow thing pointing at a usine about 1 km from my old house. I thought that having the vue aerienne along with address and telephone number should have actually shown the right house and could have been handy for example: friends trying to find where I lived (if I still lived there[blink]).Tried google earth and have found that that is not clear at all, and just looking at my village in general, doesn't seem to be in any way recent.Do the pages jaunes show exactly where you live, or is it wrong like ours was? And is there any reason why google earth is not clear with it's views of, at least my part, of the french alps.
andyh4
For us you can recentre the view and zoom in and see quite some detail, although the higher the magnification the less clear sharp outlines become - so garden walls can be clearly seen but may not have sharp edges if you understand what I mean. BUT - and it is a big BUT The views are years out of date. Our 2007 built terrace is still not on the view although our 2005 new roof to the barn does seem to be. andyh4
Just re-checked ours and the view comes up centred on the village shop and we are just off screen. Drag the image and we appear like magic - and the terrace is still not there! But I can see I have cut half of the grass area!!
idun
Is that on google earth or via the pagesjaunes?
sid
I find that often the locations on the aerial view (pagesblanches or pagesjaunes) are inaccurate, pointing to the centre of the village for example if the exact location is not recorded. It's a great pity.Just checked my own address on pagesblanches and it points not to our house but instead to the road outside the Mairie, which is about 300 metres away. nectarine
of course you can log in to Google, go to Maps and create your own map, put the arrow on your house, add a description and directions, and then it is permanently there for you to access/change/add other markers. It also gives you a link that you can insert in email, etc., ... we use it all the time to give directions to our house and a map.By the way, Pages Jaunes for us shows our house down the road in a pond! Val_2
We can only get down to about 300m above the house on both Google map, earth and the Pages Blanches vue and even then its still at least four years old because the baker's new house is only foundations and he has been in it,completely finished since 2008. Also if you put an address in, it often does not go to that particular spot, ours always indicates we are the church.

Chancer
I am pretty much sure that all the high magnification views on google earth etc are in fact ariel photographs, often when you exceed a certain magnification either the view changes to a different angle or there will be nothing at all as no ariel surveys have been done.On my UK property you can make out the 70mm fence posts, the 40mm fence (both French) and see a small bird table very clearly, my property in France whilst much larger can barely be made out at all, the large factory opposite (2000 employees) can be seen clearly though. Val_2
I for one love the google street view. It has enabled us to see the homes of our family in the UK that we have never seen or visited( and those of our clients too but thats more being nosey and seeing what they own on the other side more than anything else)It even has my son in his car in the city where he lives, waiting in a traffic jam and we managed to confirm this by going two vehicles behind and then zooming in on the number plate which when close up,are normally obscured as is the person's face. Sometimes when feeling a little homesick for the village I grew up in and where my parents still have their home, I will visit on streetview and see all the old haunts of the common, woods and fields and even more importantly visit our old house and remember why we came to live here - no comparison when I see the town, the amount of housing and traffic and concrete and tarmac compared to the fields, beaches and seaside here! nomoss
The imagery date on Google Earth aerial views is at the bottom LH corner of the image. [:)]
