Garde à vue à la française.

Recommended Posts

Just finished watching an exceptional frank documentary on the garde à vue.

For anyone having the slightest doubt about the equanimity of the french criminal system, this documentary may clarify perceptions.

The programme has on termination been signalled as available on pluzz.fr.

I recommend a view.

P.S. Now know completely that discretion was correct on being released from being handcuffed to the railings opposite the Hôtel de Ville on the last day of 1999.

I saw it, it was very good, there have been several others before too.

The one thing I took from it was the day I ever get arrested be completely passive, say nothing at all when interviewed other than to request a Doctor (may be needed later to prove uninjured at that time) and be prepared for a long stay.

I was very shocked at the woman that was hancuffed to a radiator whilst she went into labour even though she wasnt even the suspect, that her sister had accused her (now proved innocent) husband of rape didnt surprise me, just another evening in Cassoceville!

I have a friend in the Police municipale whose whole time is taken up by these type of affairs, he is a big guy and I am sure no stranger to standing on someones neck when the need arises, I certainly would not mess with him. What surprises me is some of the pensioners that have recieved this sort of treatment, I am pretty sure that they must have given at the very least a  lot of verbal indignation, pushing the officer away, "dont touch me, you cant do that etc" I am sure these people in similar circumstances would not dream of uttering a word to a individual say a bouncer built like my friend, its a big mistake to think that because they are Gendarmes/Police they wont react with aggressive force, quite the opposite in fact.

I live in a rural area and only rarely would see a Police Nationale.

I have never had any problem with the Gendarmes and most people are satisfied with their attitude.

I have on several occasions answered their questions when they have been checking on some local complaint.

The attitude of the police nationale immediately gets my back up resulting in zero cooperation.
