pachapapa
I have to send 3 share certificates to the USA with in total 818 shares. In case of lost certificates the replacement is $ 1.87 per share plus cost of processing $ 50; a total of about $ 1500.I propose to send the envelope with La Poste with "valeur déclarée". Is this the best choice?Value € 1000 costs € 12....value € 2500 costs € 20.Postage in the region of 75 gms costs € 4.Delivery delay is not important. pachapapa
On the basis of doument 100 grammes, I get the impression that the humble La Poste is cheaper.Am I making a mistake?http://www.tarif-colis.com/simulResult.phpOr La Poste athttp://www.tarif-colis.com/simulResult.phpAnd then € 20 on top to give € 2500 cover for a cost of € 20.I am trying to get my head around why one would send anything with Fedex, DHL, etc if it is worth less than € 5000.OK! I do get pretty Chrono Post/ UPS envelopes, sometimes.
Bill
assuming these are not bearer bonds or similar. if you are not in a hurry, then no point in using fed ex/dhl.. I have spent the past 25 years looking for alternatives as I hate their price. a registered letter is just as secure, assuming its not for the back and beyond of darkest africa, also the speed isn't so bad to america (from UK) , can take just a few days which is as fast as a courier . You have calculated the cost of replacement, but then you have to weigh up the chance of loss, and my view is its insignificant and the paper has no value to anyone else rgdsBill
pachapapa
Many thanks for reply. The high cost of replacement of lost share certificates is due to the cost of the insurance bond covering the remote possibility that someone might usurp the true owner's interest. The old share certificates will be required together with a W-8BEN to issue a new certificate with Alpha and pay the slightly less than $ 10.000 sweetener. I shall now wait until after christmas before posting.
