NormanH
After the murders of the Paratroopers last week, this similar incident has happenedhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/19/toulouse-shooting-three-killed-jewish-schoolThe enquiry into the other shootings is progressing:http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualite-france/2012/03/18/01016-20120318ARTFIG00232-montauban-le-tueur-de-militaires-traque-sur-internet.phpOne of the soldiers had advertised a motorbike for sale on 'le bon coin' and the killer had made an appointment with him, which has given the Police some possible leads from the computer (IP etc)
5-element
As the man who did the shooting was on a scooter, it sounds probable that it might be the same killer as before - it was noted that the 3 paratroopers killed in Montauban and the officer killed in Toulouse were all "issus de la diversité", and now a Jewish school was targeted, is the killer bent on ethnic cleansing??? Russethouse
Two of the dead are the professeurs sons according to our lunchtime news : A teacher at the school, believed to be aged 30, and his two children, aged three and six, are reported to have been killed. Christine Animal
They now seem to say the same gun was used today and for the militaires in Montauban.http://actu.orange.fr/une/fusillade-devant-un-college-juif-a-toulouse-en-direct-afp_533286.htmlOne witness said he was only about a metre away from the people he shot. Nothing to do with this, but the other day some mad man went into the mosquée at Arras and killed an elderly man and seriously wounded another.http://www.trouvetamosquee.fr/5agression-a-la-mosquee-arras-un-mort-et-un-blesse-grave43/
Patf
This is so horrific and frightening - all the murders, Jewish, Arab, Muslim and African. We were in Toulouse last Thursday shopping at the Jewish shops, and all was well then.I hope the police get their act together and find the crazy wicked person who has created such havoc and destruction. Surely after three incidents they must have lots of evidence from witnesses to trace him?
5-element
Tragically, it might be only when the next massacre happens, that a coherent pattern emerges - I can imagine there are many brains, sharper and better trained than mine, who are trying to double-guess the killer - is the next target going to be Moslems near or in a mosque, or gays leaving a club, a Roms encampment, a communist political meeting, or even Catholics in front of their church??? One can't help wondering when and how it might happen again unless the killer is stopped really quickly.[:(]Quite terrifying.
Gardengirl
Absolutely terrifying. People interviewed on the radio were saying they are prisoners in their homes - people are rightly very frightened bout where this person will strike next.I also heard that Sarkozy visited the city and has stopped campaigning until Wednesday. NormanH
One avenue that is being explored is that of a group of Neo-Nazi soldiers who had been excluded from the parachute regiment in 2008 for their extreme views. The profile of the person (well-muscled, with tattoos) and the fact that the victims were Maghrebin, Caribbean and Jewish are the sources of this suspicionAnother avenue is that it is a 'punishment' for having served in Afghanistan, but that doesn't explain the school killingshttp://www.lepoint.fr/societe/exclusif-le-point-une-premiere-piste-dans-l-enquete-de-toulouse-19-03-2012-1442791_23.php

NormanH
The latest reports are that he claims to be Al Quaida, and is now under siege in Toulouse."Reports quoted police as saying the man barricaded inside the house had told them he wanted to avenge the deaths of Palestinian children. He was described as a French national with an Algerian mother."http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2012/mar/21/france-shooting-toulouse-police-suspects-jewish-school-raidhttp://www.lefigaro.fr/actualite-france/2012/03/21/01016-20120321ARTFIG00314-toulouse-le-raid-intervient-un-policier-blesse.php
pachapapa
The telephone call to Ebba Kalondo of France 24 gives some idea of the mindset of the killer, the call was only a couple of hours before the security services moved in.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd0bTjkci5c
NickP
What is the obsession with not using the word Nazi's, did it not exist or is someone trying to rewrite history? I'd have thought that it should be used to remind people just how bad the Nazi regime was. It 's not just this forum that follows this practise. By the way Nazi has 4 letters so why only 3***. Christine Animal
Apparently the suspect has said that he was going to act again this morning and had already identified his victim, another militaire in Toulouse.
Frederick
I am watching the live broadcast and the suspect is holed up in his appartment . They have his scooter his helmet blown up a car containing guns The guy is alleged to be a Taliban escapee from an Afgan prison who states he will give himself up this evening . There seems to be too much information being given out on French TV at the moment I think ... Especially as they have not got hold of the guy yet ! Pickles
Well, it seems to have resolved itself in what was always the most likely outcome. He has "died whilst trying to escape via a window". A rather large number of rounds were fired - apparently around 300 - during the assault, with many of them said to have been fired by the culprit. Pickles
And now there are calls for a teacher to be suspended for requiring her students to observe a minute's silence to remember Mohamed Merah, on the grounds that he is a victim of an unhappy childhood and that his link with fundamentalist terrorists is a fabrication by Sarko.http://www.midilibre.fr/2012/03/23/une-enseignante-fait-observer-une-minute-de-silence-en-hommage-a-mohamed-merah,475549.phpShe already seems to have had a meeting in the office of the rector of Haute-Normandie - presumably without tea, biscuits or the possibility of sitting down.
