Renaud
The Ile de Ré seems rather a swanky place for a prison. In these straightened times why not sell it off to become a Malmaison-style boutique hotel and build a nice new prison elsewhere? There are several towns I can think of where the architecture seems based on prisons.
Cendrillon
I believe there has been talk of moving that prison to the mainland.

[/quote] There has been talk for a long time . At the moment it holds long term prisoners...
Cendrillon
I guess an island is a good place to have a prison, any escape attempts will be more difficult. Parkstone I.O.W and Alcatraz come to mind.
Loiseau
Unlike those, there is a bridge to the mainland from the Ile de Ré. Though of course it would be easy for the police to set up a roadblock.Angela
Cendrillon
You are right Angela, but there are nearly always traffic jams on the Ré bridge so a quick getaway may not be that easy.
