Winter Storms in the eastern USA

I have seen the winter storms hitting the eastern USA on the news and was wondering if we will get such bad storms in a few weeks time? And how many weeks?

A friend in France was complaining bitterly about this winter, she doesn't want it to get any worse, she has already had enough. For her there's been too much rain and snow. In the valley, we often would get the rain when the mountains got the snow, something I personally prefered for everyday living. We never got floods and wet roads are far easier to drive on than snow and ice. This winter my old village has had lots of snow.

I had to smile this morning at one photo that was shown with someone with 3' of snow against their front door. Their door opened inwards, so they could get out. Whereas, as I have commented before, in Sweden, the doors open outwards........ how would they get out in such circumstances, seems a rum old way of having a door open in a country that gets lots of snow.

All week they've been going on about this storm. Friday comes and I need to go to social security to upgrade my status, and it's closed. No notice, no reason why. People in the car park confused as they had appointments. Can only assume that it was due to the storm. Thing is, the storm never came. We had some snowfall, but it was only a flutter if that.

More typical media sensationalism.

[/quote]In most of Sweden 3' foot of snow in one night would be very very unusual. Yes you do get snow but rarely more than 10-20 cm at one time. Becuse of the cold it tends to hang around for a along time so you get gradual accumulations. As most Swedish houses have porches and steps up to the door snow does not seem to cause problems in opening the doors and at least with outward opening doors you dont get snow falling into the house when you open the door.

I lived in Sweden for 10 years during some very snowy winters and this was never a problem. Being on the eastern side of the Scandinavian peninsular Sweden has comparitively low rainfall about 500 - 600 cm per year.
