idun
The news aout the weather this week has been like a horror story of biblical proportions.Tempests in the Cote d'Or, the Pyrenees with disastrous floods. Words like eventré and devasté were used, and rightly so. Farms so badly flooded that there is no chance of growing any hay and the farmers are running out of hay for their beasts who are now inside,as there is nowhere for them to graze. Vines destroyed by hail stones. Where I used to live they would fire mortars to stop the hail, but I have never heard of that happening in other parts of France. And 36° in Strasbourg and 13° in Brest. There was much flooding last week in the more eastern part of France. And I do hope that no one has been affected. What got me tonight was the fuss being made of Lourdes. Apparently 'la saison' is just about to start, and that for me is the way that people talk about making money, big money, that is when they make it, a lot of it, in 'la saison'. And Lourdes, they get lots and lots of visitors, pilgrims. And I reckon that of anywhere that is part of the catholic church, then Lourdes is surely about the richest, and yet they were asking for money tonight. They should be well off, very well off. Unlike many of the poor souls in the vicinity who have been flooded along with the farmers who are not necessarily insured. Or is Lourdes worried that the pelerins will boude and believe that their god is unhappy with La Grotte and consequently, will no longer go?????
