Storms in Perigord

Recommended Posts

Well we've seen them often enough on French TV,  but last night the golf-ball-sized hail stones came to us.....

Only for about two minutes,   but the new (to them,  and expensive) car of guests staying with us now has seven pock mark dents in the bonnet and one of the smoky glass panels of the roof has cracked in much the same way as the initial impact on a windscreen....

Two old fashioned roof-lights on the house now have no glass,  and several failing terracotta roof tiles are now very much in need of repair.   But I suspect we got off lightly....

Have seen a reportage via LCI from Excideuil - about fifteen miles from us.....  Will watch the TV again at lunchtime...

Following French tradition some of the hail is now in our deep-freeze!

Well, Martin, it would appear that we have escaped lightly!

I knew that grêles were expected and I must rather embarrassedly now admit to longing for the storm as it was so damned hot.  The "son et lumière" from our veranda was spectacular and I had my evening snack sitting there, just to watch the show.

I love thunderstorms.

As an aside, I am very conscious that I haven't been in touch with you.  Life has been a bit "unrelenting" but I hope to rectify that very soon.

Best regards to you and Mrs M!

Assuming you have any TV channels left try and watch France 3 Aquitaine ce soir at 19.00 ish.  They covered the damage in Excideuil quite extensively at lunch time.   As did TF1.  Many folk round here are counting the costs - including of course to roof-mounted solar panels.     An awful lot of cars are damaged....

I haven't pestered you about Arte but am at your disposal as and when....

Best wishes

I love watching these major storms too. I waited for it to get nearer to us last night but although we had a rather wonderful light show we had no rain at all.

I feel sorry for those people who have had their property damaged although I must confess that I do envy them their rain.

Of course, thanks for asking![:)]

You know how chateaux are built; very solid, all that stonework (grin)!

Having had this boast now, I'll probably find it's been completely demolished by the time I visit next week...[:-))]
