nectarine
Someone told me that he had sent a lettre recommandee to England but had not received the little paper slip, showing proof of receipt. I explained this might be lost in the post, as it would not be contained in an envelope but just a paper signature sheet floating around (probably) in thePost Office and they might not know what to do with it.Can anybody tell me different, if there's a way to trace that it was delivered in the UK? He's not had the letter back - and it's been several months - and no reply from the recipient. Any advice, please?
Pickles
We frequently receive LRAR letters in the UK. Only on ONE occasion did the postie remove the AR. The rest of the time the AR was left attached. However, the delivery was recorded - in the UK LRAR tends to be treated as "Signed for", so I would suggest that the person goes on to La Poste's site armed with the proof of posting receipt (ie the one he/she was given at the post office) and uses the barcoded number thereon to check what happened on La Poste's online system. That's all that they can do.
nectarine
Thank you Pickles, I'm guessing that's what happened. I will suggest that this person checks the barcode system. Thanks again.
Gardengirl
We've also received these regularly over the past few years. None has ever had the slip removed, and only the odd one has been signed for. Normally they are just bundled up with other papers etc. On occasions when our paperwork has been sent to England when we've actually been in France, our son has waded through quite a number of bundles before he could find them. It seems to be a lucky dip/postcode lottery as to what happens.
idun
I have had the problem the other way round when sending french tax return to France from the UK. I have never had any confirmation that they have arrived. And as there is a deadline, have ended up sending ordinary mail copies through and at least one of the two or both have got through. The normal mail copy, always had a little note in stating that I had sent the recorded and had had no proof it had arrived. It is, as far as I can tell, a real problem. And the Post Office, well, they were content to say that my letter had left England............. errr.......... that was the minimum I expected for the extra charge. I did this for several years running.
nectarine
An update ... on checking the address I found the street name and postcode were wrong, so it may not have been delivered in any case. Although it certainly hasn't been sent back to the sender in France. I have informed the sender, perhaps they will try again. thanks for all replies. Pickles
You got me thinking about whether there was any UK equivalent to La Poste's online mail service, where you can upload your letter to La Poste and they will print it and deliver it, using ordinary or Recommandé or LRAR. There are some providers, but the only one that I found that can do Recorded delivery is the following bunch. It might be an idea to pass the website details to your friend - at least it will go into the UK system correctly and the deli8very will be properly recorded!https://www.pc2paper.co.uk/postage.asp
