Yonner
We’re having a new wheelie bin !!A letter has arrived from a local/regional body which tellsus that shortly we will be given a new bin, a wheelie. The idea is that we will be charged for the size of bin we chooseto have, and the frequency with which we put it out to collect. In theory that should benefit us – second home, very littlerubbish, plenty of recycling etc. BUT,only if the cost of the tax fonciere/d’habitation is reduced to take account ofthe change in payment structure. My scepticismis that this will just be an additional “tax”Question is/are, has anyone else been through this? Has the tax been reduced? Has it benefitted? YCCMB
Our rubbish collection has just been taken over by the larger commune of Saintes. The same basic rules are supposed to apply: the more you use the service, the more you will pay. However, having received our bill, it transpires that the additional charges come ON TOP of the basic collection charge, which has gone up. So in reality we're paying more than previously. I estimate that it costs us about €3-5 each time the bin is emptied.
Yonner
'zakkly as I suspected Betty. we live well out in the sticks, and the worry is that folks will dump rubbish in woods and fields, as they did decades ago, prior to communal collections. We'll see.
confused of chalus
It depends where you live. We are about to get a new bin too. It will be chipped to record the weight of rubbish and frequency of collection. For the first year, starting next month, it will be the experiment year, when we will pay our normal charge for rubbish, while at the same time have our usage of the service monitored and reported back to us, showing how much we would have to pay under the new system. The promise is that the basic fee, which will include 12 collections, and the use of the dechetterie will be lower than we currently pay. If, during the summer for example we decide we want the bin collected weekly, because of the heat, we will be charged more. Equally, if we are not good girls and boys and fail to recycle our bins will be heavy and we will pay more.On the face of it second home owners should benefit by not using all their included collections, as they all, at the moment get charged for the year round service.Of course, the mairie is so far not saying what the charges actually will be... So it will be 12 months before we know.Every home has had a visit from the recycling specialist who has explained how we can keep our bills down. He was very impressed by my wormerie and our massive three bin compost system!
Yonner
Thanks Cof C, that sounds similar to our expected setup, so lets hope my cynicism is misplaced. I'll have to look into a wormery ( so to speak) and our compost "system" is currently just a heap, but well loved!
Cendrillon
We have to buy our own bins [:(] though they do supply yellow plastic bags for the recycling stuff.
