PaulT
Seems that the Goodyear workers have taken hostages:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25631238I find it amazing that in the past people have not been prosecuted for this type of thing. Quillan
You may find they are exempt from prosecution provided it is to do with their grievance. I seem to remember that Sarkozy removed this 'privilege' but Hollande has reinstated it. Don't park your car near their factory, if the burn it they are not liable. PaulT
Perhaps for the good of France the civil servants should take Hollande hostage :)
idun
Goodyear managers rather than the workers have been taken hostage in Amiens. Often happens in France, so I just gave my best gallic shrug when I saw it on french news. The workers cannot win, I suppose that they know that but needed to show the world that they are desparate, maybe.
woolybanana
To be fair, they had their chance to have a new deal a little while ago. It was accepted by the Goodyear Sud factory but not by the Goodyear Nord factory. The former has a somewhat less intransigent union rep whilst the latter is run by a screaming commie who is determined to lead the kind of wild suicidal charge, in the name of what I do not know. The death of semi-skilled heavy industries in France is painful in the extreme. With a bit of goodwill and decent labour laws, quite few could have been saved.
Frederick
They could he held a long time while they talk this figure down .....Where are the riot police ? Clearly it was no longer possible to keep fighting for our jobs," Mickael Wamen, the union president, told LCI television. "So we decided to change tactics and fight for the largest compensation possible.View galleryIn exchange for releasing the managers, they're demanding an 80,000-euro ($108,000) severance package plus 2,500 euros ($3,400) for each year worked.
