idun
I always knew that there was censorship in France. Seen it too often with regards to politics. However, things sexual never seemed to come under the same heading, and frankly I have seen things on french tv that I know would not be shown on UK tv before approx 11 and well after the water shed.........and on french tv they have been on a Sunday afternoon. So this week has surprised me, Britney Spears and Miley Cirrus videos have been banned pre watershed in France. And then there is Dieudonné, now I remember when he first started out, finding him funny and appreciated his deprecating sense of humour, but that changed and to use the word 'radically' is quite appropriate. He is IMO a terrible man now. However, I do not believe that his shows should have been stopped in such a fashion. In fact, it has never been known for french 'justice' to work so rapidly EVER! The dozing dinasaur that is french justice, apparently can move at speed, sadly to stop 'liberté d'expression'. I find the videos and Dieudonné situation very worrying this week. NormanH
I didn't know about the videos, but the Dieudonné situation shows that some groups are effectively exempt from the idea of liberty of expressionWe have seen what happens if disparaging references are made to the ProphetThis shows that something similar happens if you upset the CrifPredictably given my politics I rather agree with Besancenothttp://www.liberation.fr/politiques/2014/01/10/dieudonne-interdire-plutot-les-licenciements-dit-besancenot_971840lyMore generally with the march of Political Correctness it is becoming impossible even illegal to express profoundly-held feelings in certain areas. Homophobia, sexism and racism are unpleasant, but I don't agree with making the expression of them illegal unless the way in which it is done is clearly meant to hurt and offend an individual.Even more worrying to me is the censorship of the Internet being pushed through in the UK at the moment under the guise of protecting children from pornographThe same mechanism once in place can also be used to filter access to any sort of information a Government might deem undesirableI didn't know about the videos, but the Dieudonné situation shows that some groups are effectively exempt from the idea of liberty of expressionWe have seen what happens if disparaging references are made to the ProphetThis shows that something similar happens if you upset the CrifPredictably given my politics I rather agree with Besancenothttp://www.liberation.fr/politiques/2014/01/10/dieudonne-interdire-plutot-les-licenciements-dit-besancenot_971840lyMore generally with the march of Political Correctness it is becoming impossible even illegal to express profoundly-held feelings in certain areas. woolybanana
You obviously feel so strongly that you have to say it all twice. Don't worry, Kevin, it comes to all of us, comes to all of us.
