YCCMB
So, being resident outre-manche and having about as much use for CAF as of a handbrake for my canoe, when this little gem landed in my inbox this evening, having sidestepped my spam filter altogether, I smelled a rat. I just felt a teeny bit of concern for my fellow people-who-have-a-connection-with-France-but-don't-actually-live-there. There are enough mistakes and clumsiness of usage in the French to dispel any lingering doubts that it's spam, too, if you can spot them. It's the usual "send us your credit card details and we'll rob you blind" scam, but for those of a nervous disposition or who don't read French too well, I thought I'd flag it up. I've changed the link to prevent it being live, but one giveaway was that it began with "wwwd." instead of the normal "www", which is easily overlooked. As could the the lowercase "caf", although perhaps they're just trying not to shout....[;-)]Anyway, just FYI (or should I say fyi?) "Cher Client. YCCMB
I found something similar in my spam, purporting to be from HMRC, telling me I was owed a reimbursement. Unfortunately, they addressed it to me at an e-mail address which isn't even mine, but appears to be one which was cloned from my actual e-mail address many moons ago when my e-mail was hacked. suein56
Unfortunately, they addressed it to me at an e-mail address which isn't even mine ...
In this case the email address was bang on, and my friends name is not exactly run-of-the-mill so she was almost taken in but, fortunately, she hesitated and sent it on to me instead of clicking on the live link. Val_2
To access your CAF site for declarations and info etc, they send you by post your actual personal code and there are many warnings on their site as to fraudulent emails regarding CAF allocataires. dwmcn
Betty,Out of interest, and my French is minimal, but as I thought you were living in the flooded Thames area, why are you receiving French e-mails?David
YCCMB
David. I had no idea it was prohibited.[:D]. However, to answer your question more seriously, I receive many e-mails in French. It's (part of) my job.
