woolybanana
As part of an anti discrimination programme, boys were encouraged to wear skirts to school for a day, which got the goat of the catho right. Would you have minded? Is Anglo-Saxon society further advanced? Is it ok for priests to wear dresses?http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualite-france/2014/05/16/01016-20140516ARTFIG00185-lyceens-en-jupe-a-fait-bizarre-mais-si-ca-fait-avancer-la-cause8230.php(I tried to get google translate to do thiis but it kept messing me up, to the extent that the ipad nearly met its end violently!) YCCMB
Jeez, I haven't even work a skirt for at least 10 years, probably longer. If there's a lack of advancement in society, it's in believing that there are that many women who still wear them!
idun
I do have a few pair of trousers, but not of quality as they are for being in places where nothing decent is required ie a bbq and sing song in a barn.In fact I don't like wearing them at all and few women look OK in them. Good for those that do, but most do not IMO. It always amazes me that european men have not got around to finding something more comfortable and loose fitting, maybe one day because all too often one sees poor men looking uncomfortable and trying to discretely juggle and adjust bits that are obviously troubling them. And what is better in mid summer in France when it is horrifically hot than a long loose fitting dress and at home no undies, although when out, cotton underwear is I believe necessary under such a dress.Boys wearing skirts is OK, I've never found it odd that the scots do. Edit meant to add that I have nothing that I wear in winter that is warmer than my thick skirts and tights, trousers are not warm, au contraire. And in France my sons wore shorts for school well into autumn and people would ask if they were not going to catch cold. I would imagine that more than a couple of blokes on here wore shorts until they were in their teens, shorts to their knees and socks up to their knees, lucky mother's only having to buy sticking plasters instead of new trousers that would get holed all the time with energetic lads. Tancrède
trousers are not warm, au contraire.
Absolutely. Trousers, a revolutionary, democratic and republican garment, are decidedly not warm. I long for the moment - a very brief one this year - when the temperature falls below zero, and I can go into breeches. As regards ladies wearing trousers - there is one great advantage in this. That singularly uninteresting question, Does my arse look big in this ? is rendered completely unnecessary as the answer is a foregone conclusion.PS I see that the empêcheurs de danser en rond have decided to expurgate my text. The word was A R S E - just to avoid all possible confusion.
YCCMB
Why should it be relevant what women look like in trousers? I mean, for one thing, I have yet to see a man who looks anything special in a skirt, and in honesty there aren't that many who look particularly great in trousers either. The fundamental difference is at the front, rather than the back. By which I mean, of course, that there's a significant percentage of the male population who either have to wear their trousers under their substantial girth, or have to go the other route, hoping that their pants aren't too tight under the arms. Gardian
WB's question was whether any of us think that its a good idea for boys to wear skirts (-not whether women look good in trousers, etc)My answer ............. bloody daft. The school needs to be told that it has lost the plot.

Chancer
I have forgotten the name of the item but I was very taken by the male business attire in Fiji which consisted of a white shirt and tie and a belted skirt, the upper part of which was identical to a pair of suit trousers, it wasnt like culottes more like a sarong and very smart indeed.Perhaps I was born in the wrong body [:(]As someone who for years drove open topped cars in all weathers and who now does a lot of kayakking both of which mean your legs get soaked very quickly i know that the worst garment to wear is jeans and the best bare legs be they from a pair of shorts or a skirt. In practical terms a skirt is far better than any pair of trousers.

NormanH
One might be more likely to win the Eurovision Song Contest if one did wear a skirt...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2625242/Bearded-drag-queen-Conchita-Wurst-puts-dazzling-performance-Eurovision-2014.html
woolybanana
Norman, my dear old soul, where have you been? It seems such a long time since you graced us with your dulcet prose!I rather fancy that friend Conchita Wurst gets the best of both worlds and the pervos as well. Still, should make a bob or two, eh.
YCCMB
That's a frock. And a rather glamorous frock, too. comparing it to a skirt is a bit like comparing a pair of trousers to a pair of overalls. No need to thank me. I was once a fashion guru, you know. Tabards a speciality...[:D]
