woolybanana
because Mrs Rottweiler, his ex concubine who was dumped for the lady at the end of the scooter ride, has written a kiss and tell book, and boy has she done a job on Hoillande.Due to be published tomorrow but with tasty morsels today, it was printed in Germany in great secrecy.Hollands may not survive this one as he does not, apparently, come out of it very well at all. Remember that there is no precedent for a president standing down.Watch the press for reactions.
EuroTrash
Unfortunately I suspect he will survive it.There's still a core of French who have an ingrained respect for the 'right to privacy' and believe that a person's professional life should be kept separate from their personal life. You can be a despicable person but if you are a good politician and you run the country well, you still deserve respect for that.. As it happens Hollande seems pretty pathetic in both areas, but bizarrely I suspect that the kiss and tell book might even gain him a bit of sympathy. NormanH
The problem is less M Hollande's personal peccadillos(he seems doomed to lose the next election) but the next President. At the moment it looks like a choice between Juppé (already convicted of mishandling public funds) Sarkozy (with all the sleaze) and Marine Le Pen... woolybanana
Not much of a choice, is it.
Pickles
I'm not sure I understand what Ms Trierweiler can say that could actually bring him down .... He's already VERY unpopular so unless there are accusations of illegal actions, then what is the issue?
woolybanana
His character and his behaviour may not make him suitable to continue in office, based on the very few extracts I have read.
idun
Unless he has been lewd with the maids, then really I cannot see what she could say that would bring him down. His living with her in the first place, IMO reflected badly on his character, for which I consider that he has not got much of one.....She however, is showing herself in her true colours, as the rather unpalatable person I always thought that she was. mint
And, don't forget, Valérie is even more unpopular with the French public than Hollande himself?[:D]
Clark Kent II
[quote user="idun"] ... idun
You are right......... I may not have liked Margaret Thatcher, but surely she had bigger nuts than the current french president...... and probably......... David Cameron, Ed Milliband and Nick Clegg all put together.[:-))]Would anyone care, other than to mock, I doubt it.
woolybanana
Interesting video from a commentator on Le Point. He calls the book pathetic, Mrs Trierweiler pathetic and Mr. Hollande pathetic. But I feel that calling the poor people of France the 'sans dents' may be a comment that comes back to haunt him. NormanH
Judging from Gardian's recent thread it might be literally true...
